MALA

Born and raised in South Norwood, South London, Mala is one of the most influential figures in UK bass music. A founding member of DMZ, he helped shape dubstep before it even had a name, laying the foundations for a movement that would ripple through global electronic music.

Through his agenda-setting label Deep Medi Musik, Mala has continued to push the UK bass blueprint, championing artists such as Skream, Silkie, Commodo, Goth-Trad, Kahn and Sir Spyro, whose Topper Top became a grime classic.

His own output is equally iconic. Albums Mala In Cuba (2012) and Mirrors (2016) are celebrated explorations of collaboration, culture and spiritual connection, blending UK bass with influences from across South and Central America. Tracks like ‘Changes’ — sampled by The Game and XXXTENTACION — cement his influence far beyond the dancefloor.

Decades deep and still at the forefront, Mala continues to fuse sound, culture and community, inspiring new generations while shaping the future of electronic music.
